The main dialects Klaaifrysk, Wâldfrysk and Súdwesthoeks are mutually intelligible, whereas the archaic dialect of Hylpen and Skylge differ a lot from the main dialects and are difficult to understand for other speakers of Frisian. A general standard of Frisian has been accepted, which is mainly based on the Klaaifrysk dialect. (de Graaf 2014)
