Introduction
Baskakov (1958) describes the Kuu Kizhi as living "along the Lebed' and its tributary the Baygol (in the villages of Kurmač-Baygol, Suranaš, Malyy Čibečen' and Itkuč)." He distinguishes two sub-groups, the šalkanïg and the šagšïlïk, whom he reports are quite similar.
