Conjugate Verbs

Introduction

Aragonese, is a Romance language now spoken over the valleys of the Aragón River, Sobrarbe and Ribagorza in the province of Huesca, Aragon, Spain. It is also colloquially known as fabla (literally, "speech").

There are about 25-30 dialectal variants of Aragonese, the majority of which are in the province of Huesca, due to its mountainous terrain where natural isoglosses have developed around valley enclaves, and where, not surprisingly, the highest incidence of spoken Aragonese is found. Ribagorçan, is one such variant: an eastern Aragonese dialect, which is transitional to Gascon, Occitan, Catalan and Castilian.

Verb Types

Aragonese verbs are divided in regular and irregular verbs. The vast majority of the verbs are regular.

All the verbs are also divided in conjugation groups according to the ending in the infinitive:

• 1st conjugation (I), verbs ending in -ar : falar (to talk).
• 2nd conjugation (II), verbs ending in -er : beber (to drink).
• 3rd conjugation (III), verbs ending in -ir : partir .

Adverbial pronouns can be attached to verb forms.

Some verbs can form the compound tenses with the auxiliary 'estar'.
