Introduction

A planned language created by the Estonian Edgar de Wahl (1867-1948). Published in 1922. The name was changed to Interlingue in 1947. A "naturalistic" language with focus on natural derivation on the basis of the international vocabulary. The flagship of the Naturalistic School until the appearance of IALA's Interlingua in 1951. Known for "li regules de Wahl" (de Wahl's rules): a compromise between naturality and absolute regularity. Many adherents were disappointed Esperantists and Idists. The majority of active Occidental-Interlingue users left the language in the 1980's and 90's. At the end of the 1990's the Internet has given Occidental new possibilities.
