Introduction
Kayla or Qwara was spoken by the Beta Israel (Ethiopian Jews) of Ethiopia. It is now considered an extinct language, as its speakers ceased to use it and instead used Amharic whilst still in Ethiopia, or Hebrew after emigrating to Israel.
Kayla is sometimes considered a dialect of Qimant.
Kayla or Qwara people are called 'Falashi', the so-called 'Black Jews'. 2,321 Falashas in Ethiopia. Most of the remaining Falasha went to Israel in 1999.
