Introduction
The Venetī were a Gallic tribe dwelling in Armorica, in the northern part of the Brittany Peninsula, during the Iron Age and the Roman period.
Veneti were long distance traders, and the Veneti of Brittany were part of their trade system. With the rise of the Roman Empire, this trade system collapsed and different parts of the system assimilated into their surrounding peoples. At Brittany the Veneti assimilated into Gaulish.
If their original Venetic language was palatalized, then their Celtic would also be pa-latalized. Without having another standard to emulate,this accented manner of speaking Celtic would be passed down from generation to generation, resulting in today's Vannetais dialect of Celtic (Breton); it stands out from its neighbouring Celtic dialects from being much more extensive palatalization.
